Fern I. Preston, age 110, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, November 4, 2018. Fern was born in Lorain, Ohio on June 24, 1908 to Hugo and Fern Kikstadt. Fern was among the third graduating class from Lakeview High School in 1926. Fern married G. Herbert Preston who sadly preceded her in death in 1996.

Throughout her life Fern worked for Squire Music making violin strings; in Lakeview High School's cafeteria; and as a homemaker, raising her children. Fern loved reading, music, particularly opera, macramé, découpage, paint by numbers, and crocheting. She loved flowers and plants, but not watering them, she was a good seamstress, a sudoku fanatic, and loved traveling both domestically and abroad with her husband. Fern was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star.

Fern is survived by her two sons; Herbert (Marion) Preston and Don (Marsha) Preston; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, James (Pat) Preston; an infant son, Larry Preston; her husband; parents and two grandchildren.

Friends will be received Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home and Cremation Care, where funeral services to celebrate Fern's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10th. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
